Founded in 1911, Wolverhampton Girls’ High School is a popular and highly successful grammar school for girls aged 11 to 18, situated in attractive surroundings to the west of Wolverhampton. In 2007 it achieved redesignation into Phase 4 of its status as a Specialist Language College which it has held for over 10 years. The school is also recognised as a High Performing Specialist School and, as such, was invited to take up a second specialism, taking on Leading Edge status in 2008.

The school has received three successive outstanding Ofsted reports and been mentioned three times in HMCI’s annual report as an outstanding school. Examination outcomes at GCSE and A Level are consistently amongst the best in the country.

The school’s motto “Ludus Supra Praemium” reflects the ethos of the school whose vision highlights respect for the individual, mutual support and team work and the achievement of personal goals.

October 2008 Newsletter

Peer Mentoring

The school has been recently informed by the Mentoring and Befriending Foundation that it has achieved Approved Provider Standard for its Peer Mentoring PLUS programme.

The assessor's report indicated that the programme meets the key management and operational requirements of the Standard and is designed to deliver a quality mentoring service. The school was thanked for its highly valued commitment to mentoring.

Our thanks go to Mrs Wittwer for all of her hard work in preparing the submission and for all of the ways in which she helps and supports students in her role as Learning Mentor.
