New York & Washington 2007
In November the Politics department took 36 students to New York and Washington. Some of the highlights in New York included a trip to the top of the Empire State Building, the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island, and the United Nations headquarters. After a brief stop in Philadelphia the group moved onto Washington to visit the key political institutions of the United States, amongst others the Supreme Court and Capitol Building. In the run up to the 2008 Presidential elections, this was a facinating time to visit. Students were also able to visit the grave of John F Kennedy in Arlington National Cemetery and the various national war memorials. The trip was a great success, experiencing the unique politics of the United States and flavouring some of the culture of America. The trip hopes to be repeated in the future. |
