Curriculum

The school is four form entry and subjects are largely taught in form groups during Key Stage 3.

Pupils study a broad range of subjects across the discipline at Key Stage 3. The core subjects of English, Mathematics, separate science lessons of in Biology, Chemistry and Physics, the humanities in History, Geography and Religious Studies, two modern foreign languages from French, German, Japenese, Russian and Spanish, Latin from Year 8, Information Technology, Music, Physical Education, Art and Design Technology.  

 

Staff use a variety of teaching methods. Special emphasis is placed on active participation of pupils in lessons. They are encouraged to develop independence and to take responsibility for aspects of their studies, including setting targets for improvement and carrying out research.

Throughout there is an emphasis developing generic skills with Personal, Learning and Thinking skils embedded across the Curriculum. 

Theory is supported by practice and a wide range of trips and visits into school by outside speakers are organised to support classroom study.

Students' work is valued and displayed around the school. Departments are well-equipped with a range of modern textbooks, current IT software and other resources to enhance learning.
