Pupils take English, religious studies, mathematics, three languages (chosen from French, Russian, German, Latin, Spanish and Japanese), physics, biology, chemistry, history, geography, design and technology (including resistant materials, food, textiles), information technology, art, music and physical education.

Staff use a variety of teaching methods. Special emphasis is placed on active participation of pupils in lessons. They are encouraged to develop independence and to take responsibility for aspects of their studies, including setting targets for improvement and carrying out research.

Theory is supported by practice and a wide range of trips and visits into school by outside speakers are organised to support classroom study.

Students' work is valued and displayed around the school. Departments are well-equipped with a range of modern textbooks, current IT software and other resources to enhance learning.
