Aims
To understand the causes of events and their consequences and to prioritise these. Analysis of usefulness and limitations of sources.
 

Content
In Year 8 History, we shall continue with the study of “The Making of the UK” Britain 1500-1750. Areas considered will include; the causes of the civil war; the role of Cromwell in the Interregnum.
 

Following this, we shall study “ The French Revolution” in particular looking at its causes and effects; the roles of Louis XVI and Marie-Antoinette, as well as Robespierre and Napoleon.
 

Towards the end of the year we shall begin “Expansion Trade and Industry” Britain 1750-1900, and visit Blists Hill and Ironbridge. This will be followed in the Summer Term by a study of ‘Black Peoples of the Americas’ looking at the slave trade, life as a slave, emancipation and civil rights.

Learning Activities
Within these areas, we shall use sources, role play and various textbooks as well as ICT. Key skills developed will be source analysis, empathy and essay writing. Visit to Blists Hill Victorian town and the Iron Bridge.

Homework.
 

Key assessments on Charles I’s execution, the Reforms of the French Revolution and Enclosure, and an end of year examination which assesses long term progress.
