| Religious Studies - AS and A2 |
|
Outline of Departmental Activities: Religious Studies continues to be a very popular choice in Years 12 and 13, and several students who continue to A2 extend their studies at degree level. We follow the Edexcel ‘A’ Level Course for Old Testament / Jewish Bible and New Testament Studies. Of particular interest to our students is the Old Testament option where we learn about the exploits of Abraham, Moses, Samuel and Saul and their way of life and relationship with God. Research into living conditions and politics at this time is undertaken by the pupils.
Models of Palestinian houses constructed by Year 12 Students In Year 13 our study of the Old Testament prophets Amos, Hosea and Jeremiah reminds us that social problems facing the people in the C 8th and C 7th BC were not so different to those facing society now! Similarly, the New Testament option focuses on the way of life in C 1st AD Palestine and we look at a variety of topics including outcasts, women, rich and poor, forgiveness, salvation and the Ministry of Jesus. The Synoptic Paper of the Nature of God at the end of Year 13 provides ample opportunities for discussion and evaluation as we bring together various elements of our course. As mentioned previously the General Studies preparation ensures that all Year 12 and 13 students receive Religious Studies lessons as part of the Culture / Humanities module. |
