Religious Studies - AS and A2

Outline of Departmental Activities:
AS and A2

Religious Studies continues to be very popular choice in Years 12 and 13, and several students who continue to A2 extend their studies at degree level.  We follow the Edexcel AS and A2 Religious Studies Course.

AS

In Year 12 we study Philosophy of Religion and New Testament studies Paper I which consists of 3 essay questions in 1hr 45 minutes.

Topics studied include:-

  • The Design Argument for the Existence of God.
  • The Cosmological Arguement for the Existence of God.
  • Problems of Evil and Suffering.
  • Miracles.
  • Prayer and The Sabbath.
  • Discipleship.


For Paper 2 we investigate the Nature of God as portrayed on the Old Testament/Jewish Bible. (Examination of 1hr and 45 minutes)

A2

In Year 13 we study Philosophy of Religion and New Testament for Paper 1 which consists of 3 essays in 1hr and 45 minutes.  Topics studied include:-

  • The Ontological Argument for the Existence of God.
  • Atheism and Critiques of Belief.
  • Life After Death.
  • Religious Language.
  • The Purpose of Luke's Gospel.
  • The Kingdom of God.
  • Crucifixion and Resurerrection of Jesus.
  • Conflict Between Religious and Political Authorities.


For Paper 2 we study an Anthology of texts produced by Edexcel, examining their implications for modern day life.  (Examination of 1hr 15 minutes)

As mentioned previously the General Studies preparation ensures that all Year 12 and 13 students receive Religious Studies lessons as part of the Culture/Humanities Module.
