YEAR 12 (AS LEVEL)
The focus is on British government and polictics and is assessed at the end of the year with two 1 hour 30 minute examinations.  On each paper candidates must answer two structured, source based questions from a possible  four.

Unit 1: People, Politics and Participation (25% of A Level)

This unit focuses on how we can explain people's participation in Politics.  The focus is on  influence of electoral systems and what influences how people vote.  There is also a focus on politcical parties and pressure groups.

Unit 2: Governing Modern Britain (25% of A Level)

The focus of this unit is on how Britain is governed,  from the top levels in Westminster to governance on a local level.  A key question will be where power lies and to what extent power rests with unelected bureaucrats.  Key topics include: Parliament, British Constitution, the Prime Minister, and the Judiciary.

 

YEAR 13 (A2 LEVEL)

Study is extended to the world's most powerful and influential country the USA.  Assessment is at the end of the year with two 1 hour 30 minute examinations.  On each paper candidates must answer two questions from a possible four.

Unit 3: Politics of the USA (25% of A Level)

The key topics for this unit include: the electoral process, direct democracy, the Democrat and Republican parties, voting behgaviour, pressure groups.

Unit 4: Governing the USA (25% of A Level)

Key topics for this unit include the constitutional framework of government, legislative and executive branches of Government, and the Supreme Court.
