ICT Key Stage 3

Departmental Activities
Key Stage 3

Year 7. Girls are taught how to use the school network, how to save and print their work and to adhere to the school protocol for ICT. They also extend and develop their skills in the use of the Internet, emailing, word processing, data handling, computer control and presentations by following the National Strategy for ICT.

Year 8. Girls are introduced to the new AiDA course, part of the DiDA suite of examinations, which results in an external qualification of a GCSE at the end of year 9. This is an exciting paperless course which involves the girls producing an e-portfolio to contain their work and which can be added to and edited for the rest of their academic and working careers. This qualification is taken early to develop the girls ICT skills and to encourage them to become autonomous users in preparation for their other GCSE courses at KS4.

Year 9. Girls are completing the second and final year of their AiDA Course. They are working hard to complete the Summative Project Brief which is used to assess their ICT capability and determine the level of their success, This project requires a lot of effort but enables the girls to showcase the many, high level ICT skills that they have developed . Pupils find the work challenging but enjoy the rewards of completing an examination course early.
As well as following external examination courses we have an obligation to address the National Curriculum in ICT and girls learn skills in control, data logging and CAD/CAM, which are delivered on a cross-curricular basis with Design & Technology Resistant Materials.
