Physical Education - Years 12 - 13

Key Stage 5

We have 3 different ways in which girls can formally take part in Physical Education during years 12 and 13.

A-Level Physical Education
As part of the consortium that we have with S.Peter’s collegiate School and St.Edmund’s R.C School, the girls can opt to take A-level PE that will be delivered by specialist staff at these schools.

Sports Leaders UK Level 1 Award in Community Sports Leadership
The course aims to develop leadership skills through the medium of sport. It will teach pupils how to organise and plan, how to motivate others, how to communicate effectively and how to work well in a team. Skills that are all highly regarded by employers and higher education providers. (The students will have to complete 10 hours of voluntary sports leadership in the community to receive the award.

A major aspect of the course is that the girls have to organise an event. Over the six years that the course has ran, this has been done at the end of the summer term for our Year 7 pupils. The girls have organised a variety of events including tennis tournaments, sports day, rounders competitions and a disability sports awareness tournament. Each of these have been done to raise money for worthy charities including Save The Children, Sport Relief and the Teenager Cancer Trust. In 2011 the girls have organised the largest event yet. To help celebrate the schools Centenary, the girls organised a whole school sports day to raise money for the local charity Promise Dreams.

Recreational PE
There is the opportunity for members of the sixth form to access the PE facilities during 2 periods each week.

The Key Stage 5 PE takes place on a Wednesday afternoon.
