Physical Education - Extra – Curricular Activities

The department offers a range of activities that girls can attend during both lunch times and after school. The activities are open for all girls to attend and enjoy their participation in the activities. We do also have a number of competitive teams and have a history of some success in different sports and activities.

Netball
There is a netball team for each year group in the school and have had a number of successes with some of our current teams:

Year 9 Wolverhampton schools tournament champions,

South Staffordshire schools tournament runners up.
Year 11 Wolverhampton schools league runners-up.

 

We have a number of girls from different age groups that have been selected to represent South Staffordshire County netball.

Netball tour
Members of the senior netball squads have the opportunity to go on a netball tour during years 11, 12 and 13. This year we are going to Malta during the October half term holidays and looking forward to receiving some expert coaching and playing a number of fixtures against foreign opposition.


Hockey
There is an extra-curricular hockey club available for all years up until year11. Most practices take place on the school site on both the schools grass hockey pitch and in the sports hall. We also access Aldersley astro-turf pitch for some after school practices and matches in order to give the girls the opportunity to develop and improve their skills on this surface.

Badminton
There is a badminton club for all year groups. These are open to all abilities and have a friendly and sociable atmosphere to them. We do enter teams in to the local Wolverhampton league and tournaments. We have had some success this year as detailed below:
U.16 Tournament, Winner of the plate competition.
U.14 league competition (team competition) – Runners-up
U.14 tournament (individual) – pair’s runners up.

Football
We run both a senior and junior football club during lunch times. This is open to all abilities. We do enter teams in to the local competitions.

Gymnastics

The gymnastics club runs from September until December working towards the Wolverhampton Schools competition, which takes place in December. The club is available for all age groups and abilities to come along to. Pupils will have the opportunity to learn and develop new skills and to improve upon the skills that they already have. The girls work towards creating their own floor sequence and a vault.

 

We had success in last years competition in the following categories:
U.13 individual competition: Silver medal in the floor, vault and overall competition (Hannah Manning)
U.13 club gymnast competition – team bronze
O.13 club gymnast competition – team bronze.

Cross country
There is a weekly cross-country practice during the autumn and spring terms. There is a cross-country team that competes in the Wolverhampton league and town championships. We have had success in these competitions in recent years. There are both individual and team competitions in these events.

Swimming
The school has a swimming team which competes in the Wolverhampton league, Bazuka relays and also enters invitational competitions that we are invited to attend.

We have also entered teams in to the British Schools Biathlon competition, which combines swimming and running.

We have been successful in these competitions in recent years. In the 2003-4 season we were awarded 1st in the Wolverhampton schools league in 2 different age groups. The U.15 were also successful in the Bromsgrove invitation relays picking up first place in the Medley and second place in the freestyle.
In the biathlon competition the school were awarded 5th place nationally in 2005 and 2nd place in 2004.

Tennis
The tennis clubs run during the summer term. There are clubs open to all year groups. We also allow pupils to book out the tennis courts during the lunch hour in order to play recreational tennis with their friends.
We enter teams in to the local leagues and tournaments.

Athletics
We run athletics clubs during the summer term. We have a track practice two lunch times per week. We also have separate throwing and jumping clubs that girls can come along to either to improve their performances or to try out for the school team.
