Welcome to Wolverhampton Girls' High School

Headmistress - Mrs. J.G. Lawton

Founded in 1911, and therefore celebrating its centenary this year, Wolverhampton Girls’ High School is a popular and highly successful selective foundation school for girls aged 11 to 18, situated in attractive surroundings to the west of Wolverhampton. Contrary to the belief of many, ours is not an independent, fee-paying establishment but a state school, offering high quality education to the young women of Wolverhampton and the surrounding area at no charge. Consequently places at the school are very highly sought after with, on average, more than five applications made for every one of the 108 places available in Year 7. Places are allocated simply according to performance in an entrance examination.

Having been a Specialist Language College for some 14 years, the school maintains its reputation as a centre of excellence, with no fewer than eight languages being offered at various stages. A broad range of other subjects is also on offer with a wide curriculum available in the sixth form.

Examination outcomes at GCSE and A Level are consistently amongst the best in the country. The school has also received four successive outstanding Ofsted reports which highlight not only the impressive levels of achievement by students from all backgrounds, but also the excellent teaching and the high quality of care, guidance and support provided.

The school’s motto “Ludus Supra Praemium” reflects the ethos of the school where doing one's best is considered to be the most important, and where the vision shared by the whole school community highlights respect for the individual, mutual support and team work and the achievement of personal goals.
