as and when they become available. Please note that the waiting list will be formulated over the next few weeks and the school will advise you if your daughter has been placed on the list. Our waiting list is ranked strictly by test score and you will be informed of your daughter’s initial starting position. Applicants will move both up and down the waiting list over time as girls leave and join and the list will remain open until 31st December 2026.
IMPORTANT INFORMATION
If your daughter HAS been offered a place at WGHS
-
Please accept our warmest congratulations! You will receive an offer letter from the school and an online Accept/Decline option by email within 48 hours. Please let us know if you Accept or Decline as soon as possible, even if you opt to decline the place.
If your daughter HAS NOT been offered a place at WGHS
-
If your daughter’s test score is 204 to 208, and WGHS is listed on your Local Authority preference form, she may be eligible for our waiting list. We formulate the waiting list in the weeks following National Offer Day and if your daughter has been placed on the list, the school will write to inform you of her starting position. The waiting list will remain active until 31st December 2026 and you should expect your daughter’s position to move both up and down over the coming months.
-
If your daughter’s test score is below 204, we are sorry to say that she is not eligible for our waiting list for this year and your application will go no further. However, she will have the opportunity to re-apply for an In Year Transfer place for Year 8 entry and beyond.
-
If your daughter’s test score meets our cut off score but you have had no offer from us, this may be because:
-
When you first applied for the entrance test, you did not tick the box giving permission to share your daughter’s test scores with our school. We are happy to discuss this with you. Please call us.
-
Our school was not named on your Local Authority Preference Form. You may apply for a late preference change with your home Local Authority. This means that your daughter will have the opportunity to join our waiting list if her score meets this year’s waiting list cut off score as stated above.
-
You have been allocated a school that you listed at higher preference to our school on the Local Authority Preference Form. If this is the case, your application will go no further.
-
You applied late to the Local Authority with your school preferences and your daughter will not be considered for a place until after National Offer Day. Please call us.
-
If you feel you have grounds for an appeal, please click this link for our Schools Appeal Form
This should be submitted to Wolverhampton City Council, not to the school.

What if we live out of the area?
WGHS does not have a catchment area and we welcome applications from all areas. The first step is ensure that we are named as a preference on your home Local Authority choices form. Without this we will not be able to consider your application.

When can we see the school?

Open Events take place in April 2026, to book please visit: www.wghs.org.uk/openevents

What if my daughter is considering another grammar school?

If you are considering placing another grammar school on your preference list, please note that they will have their own Admissions Arrangements and eligibility criteria. Please check on their websites to familiarise yourself with their admissions policy.

What if we are applying late for the test?

Late applications are those where the parents of a candidate have not registered with the school by 4pm on 27th June 2025. All late candidates will be tested and we request that you contact us on admissions@wghs.org.uk
Please note that if you are considering any of the other West Midlands Partnership Schools for your daughter, you must carefully read their admission arrangements to understand if they will accept a late application. All of the schools within the partnership operate their own admission arrangements. Being accepted to sit a late test at WGHS does not automatically mean that a late test result will be considered by any other school.
