Year 5 Junior Maths Challenge

Our inaugural Y5 Junior Maths Challenge took place this week on Tuesday 20 March 2018 where we welcomed 128 junior mathematicians (and their proud teachers) from twenty-eight Wolverhampton primary schools.  There was a jubilant atmosphere in the school hall from start to finish with enthusiastic primary school students working in pairs to problem solve a range of ‘fun’ mathematical activities.

A huge congratulations to all Y5 students who participated in the event for representing their primary schools so energetically and congratulations to the three pairs of students from the following primary schools who achieved first, second and third place:

  • First place – Wodensfield Primary (116 points);

  • Second place – Merridale Primary School (113 points);

  • Third place (joint) - Bilston C of E Primary School and East Park Academy (104 points).

A huge thank you must also go to our own sixth form students who helped out on the day.  Our girls were outstanding role models for the younger students and without their help the event would not have been such a success.

It was a pleasure to open our doors to these Wolverhampton primary students and hopefully our Year 4 Junior Maths Challenge at WGHS on Friday 4 May 2018 will also be a huge success.
