Information about how to register your daughter for the Entrance Test will be available at one of the above events or from the Year 7 Admissions section of our website found here. Registration for the Entrance Test must have taken place by: 6 July 2018 at 4.00pm at the very latest. Arrangements about the Entrance Testing date will be posted to you week commencing 3rd September 2018. If you have not heard anything by the 10 September 2018, then please contact the school: 01902 551515 Parking Information: Please kindly note that there will be very limited car parking available within the school grounds during our Open Events and I would strongly discourage attempting to park your vehicle in either St. Judes’ Road West or Paget Road. Therefore, may I suggest that you familiarise yourself with the local area and find alternative parking for your car well away from the school access points and then access the school on foot through the pedestrian gate in St. Jude’s Road West or on Paget Road. The main school entrance off the Tettenhall Road (A41) will be for vehicle access and egress only for the very small amount of cars that we are able to accommodate on our school site. May I request that you are courteous when parking your car, should you be travelling to us in this way, with our close neighbours.
- Year 5 Junior Maths Challenge
Our inaugural Y5 Junior Maths Challenge took place this week on Tuesday 20 March 2018 where we welcomed 128 junior mathematicians (and their proud teachers) from twenty-eight Wolverhampton primary schools. There was a jubilant atmosphere in the school hall from start to finish with enthusiastic primary school students working in pairs to problem solve a range of ‘fun’ mathematical activities. A huge congratulations to all Y5 students who participated in the event for representing their primary schools so energetically and congratulations to the three pairs of students from the following primary schools who achieved first, second and third place: First place – Wodensfield Primary (116 points); Second place – Merridale Primary School (113 points); Third place (joint) - Bilston C of E Primary School and East Park Academy (104 points). A huge thank you must also go to our own sixth form students who helped out on the day. Our girls were outstanding role models for the younger students and without their help the event would not have been such a success. It was a pleasure to open our doors to these Wolverhampton primary students and hopefully our Year 4 Junior Maths Challenge at WGHS on Friday 4 May 2018 will also be a huge success.

- School Closure in the Event of Adverse Weather
Very bad weather and road conditions may make it advisable to close the school earlier than usual to help girls with difficult journeys to get home, although it would be only under very exceptional circumstances that the school would close significantly early. The school will alert parents to this decision by text message and e-mail via the Schoolcomms electronic service that we have in school. Therefore, please would you kindly ensure that we have a current mobile telephone number and e-mail address so that you will receive this information should we need to make contact with you. In the event of a school closure while school is in session, all students will be dismissed from school unless parents record in their daughter’s School Planner their wish for their daughter to remain in the school building until collected. Therefore, in the event of early closure, it is important that each girl knows exactly what she should do to get home. I should, therefore, be grateful if you would discuss with your daughter how she is to make her way home in very bad weather, e.g. whether she is to wait to be collected from school, to start the journey home by bus, or to start walking. It is important that you work out together an agreed route that you both know. This detail then needs to be added to your daughter’s School Planner and signed by yourself. If your daughter should arrive home earlier than usual, it would be advisable to make arrangements for her to go to a friend or neighbour if there is no one at home, or to let herself into the house if you are happy for her to do so. In the event of waking up to severe weather conditions the school will send a text message and e-mail via the Schoolcomms electronic service to all parents to notify of a school closure. We will also post this decision on the school website. The school will endeavour to have announcements made by 7.00am If there is no definite announcement about the school by 7.00am it can be assumed that there has not been a closure and school is open as usual. Therefore, it should not be necessary to telephone the school to seek guidance as to what you should do.

- West Midlands State Secondary School of the Year
We are celebrating being awarded the Sunday Times West Midlands State Secondary School of the year award and will be featured in this weekend’s publication. Wolverhampton Girls’ High School which has the distinction of being named The Sunday Times West Midlands State Secondary School of the Year. “To achieve a five point percentage rise in the number of A*, A and B grades for A-levels this year, just as the examinations get considerably tougher, is an outstanding achievement for which pupils and their teachers should take huge credit. “However, education at Wolverhampton Girls’ High is about much more than just examination success. Girls are encouraged to participate and succeed in a huge number of activities beyond the classroom and they thrive in a caring and nurturing environment.” It is an honour to receive this award and to be selected out of the hundreds of secondary schools across the West Midlands. This award recognises academic excellence and the fantastic achievements of our students at GCSE and A Level but it goes far beyond these performance measures. The progress of our students is to be celebrated alongside the well rounded contributions our girls make to our community and beyond and the way in which they seize so many different opportunities both within and outside the classroom. These experiences help them to grow into happy, confident and resilient young women who achieve fantastic outcomes in all respects. Well done everyone this is wonderful recognition of our school and is testament to the hardworking approach of our girls, the dedication of our staff and the support and encouragement from parents. Thank you.
- WGHS at the Parliamentary Review
Mrs Young and Mr Jones (Chair of Governors) represented the school at the House of Commons last night to celebrate the launch of this year’s Parliamentary Review. Wolverhampton Girls High School shares best practice alongside Prime Minister Theresa May in The Parliamentary Review. Wolverhampton Girls High School appears alongside Prime Minister Theresa May in the 2016/17 Parliamentary Review. Established by former minister The Rt Hon David Curry in 2010, The Parliamentary Review’s September release is now a key fixture in the political calendar. Wolverhampton Girls High School features alongside the Prime Minister and a small number of outstanding schools in a document that looks back on the year in schools and Westminster. The main aim of the Review is to showcase best practice as a learning tool to the public and private sector. Across all policy areas, The Parliamentary Review is sent to over half a million leading policymakers. The articles in the Review act as both a blueprint for success and a template for reform. The Prime Minister commented that ‘this year’s Parliamentary Review follows a significant year in British politics’ and this is reflected in the articles from leading journalists and best-practice representatives alike. The PM’s former cabinet colleague, Sir Eric Pickles, who was recently appointed Chairman of the Review, said ‘it has never been more important for government to hear the views of business and the public sector in a constructive forum. It is also a vital time to share best practice and progress.’ The Parliamentary Review’s director Daniel Yossman concurred, saying ‘Wolverhampton Girls High School and other hardworking organisations from across the country have come together to make this year’s Review possible. ’ An e-copy of The Parliamentary Review can be viewed here: https://www.theparliamentaryreview.co.uk/editions/secondary-education/midlands-and-east-england
